Microsuction Earwax Removal in Kettering

Fast, Effective and Safe

Microsuction Earwax Removal

Now, there are doubts as to the safety and effectiveness of ear syringing as a means of removing wax. In addition, most GP surgeries no longer offer an earwax removal service. So, microsuction earwax removal is currently seen as the gold standard solution amongst audiologists. Furthermore, the process is quick, clean and pain-free.

About Earwax

Earwax or cerumen is a mix of skin cells, hair and secretions from the glands in your outer ear canal. It contains fatty acids, cholesterol and also alcohols. So, it’s not actually wax, however, it does have a waxy consistency which allows it to perform all sorts of useful functions. Firstly, earwax provides a natural defence for your ears. It stops dirt, dust particles and foreign bodies from reaching your inner ear and causing damage. Without earwax, your ears would be at greater risk of infection and inflammation. It even repels insects since it has acids that they find unpleasant. So earwax acts as a physical barrier, but it also has valuable anti-fungal and antibacterial qualities.

Why Do My Ears Get Blocked?

Of course, your ears will naturally discharge wax. They are in effect self-cleaning, however, some of you will have narrow ear canals which may it harder for the wax to exit. Elsewhere, the use of cotton buds for ear cleaning and wearing in-ear listening devices can cause earwax to become impacted. Also, you may have naturally hard or dry earwax and this often occurs with ageing as earwax becomes drier as you get older.

Signs of Earwax Build-Up

If your ears are blocked you may experience a temporary hearing loss. In addition, you may have a feeling of fullness in the ear(s), dizziness or occasionally coughs or an unusual odour. Blocked ears can also cause tinnitus which presents as a ringing in the ears. We can offer you instant relief for many of these symptoms via microsuction earwax removal. Firstly, we will examine your ears and then, in the event that there is no wax present, we will suggest a full medical evaluation.

What is Microsuction Earwax Removal?

Microsuction earwax removal uses a binocular operating microscope with which we view your ear canal. A fine low-pressure sterile suction then allows us to remove all of the wax build-up from your ears. Occasionally, we may use other instruments to clear harder wax. We can clearly see what we are doing and avoid contact with the sides of the ear canal. This makes the process very safe and more comfortable than other traditional ear wax removal techniques. We have now cleaned ears for over 4000 individuals since we began this service in 2016 and this shows that it is very popular. For our clients in the Kettering area, we offer earwax removal at our hearing centre in Kettering and appointments are usually available within a few days.

I am so glad that Brian Eccles Hearing Centre was recommended to me. I had blocked ears which became very uncomfortable. I was greeted with a smile and put at ease throughout the whole procedure.ย I also had a follow-up appointment to make sure all was ok.ย Any problems in the future I shall go back knowing I will be in such safe hands.ย Thanks.
